| I’m basically a numbers-guy, which leaves me struggling to comprehend the dismal level of confidence in America today. According to preliminary June results from the University of Michigan, consumer confidence posted a survey reading of 56.7 (where 1960 is arbitrarily set to 100) – the lowest since May of 1980. By way of reminder, the jobless rate was then 7.5 percent (2 points higher than now), and inflation exceeded 14 percent (10 points higher than now).
